Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit an experienced therapy support worker to a Band 4 therapy support worker role in the specialist surgery team based at Heartlands Hospital. The Therapy Support Worker will work under the supervision of Registered Therapists and will be responsible for an agreed specific caseload. The role will include collaborative working with experienced physiotherapist and occupational therapists who work as part of the multidisciplinary team to support patients undergoing surgery at Heartlands Hospital.
We are looking to recruit an experienced band 3 or band 4 therapy support worker with an interest in working in specialist surgery. The role supports therapists to provide therapeutic input to patients on the vascular and general surgery wards. You will join our dynamic team of Therapists who strive towards holistic recovery and regaining independence following surgery or illness. Applicants will be willing to participate in the 7 day working rota within specialist surgery.
Main duties of the job
The therapy support worker work alongside qualified therapists to provide therapeutic input to patients on the surgical wards. This will include assessment and treatment on the wards and conducting home visits to patients properties.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills to deal with challenging situations and to be an advocate for their patients. Additionally, they will work collaboratively with the wider MDT to optimise the provision of care to patients demonstrating good teamworking. The trust is committed to providing a 7 day service and therefore the role is on a 7 day working rota.

- *Education to GCSE level or equivalent including English and maths at grade C or above
- *Able to demonstrate competence in maths and written and spoken English
- *Educated to A Level / NVQ 4/ BTEC or equivalent (e.g. NVQ 3 or similar vocational qualification PLUS substantive experience working in a care setting)
- *Care certificate or be willing to work towards this

- *Evidence of recent education / personal development related to Healthcare.

- *Comprehensive experience supporting therapists in a relevant clinical setting
- *Comprehensive experience of delivering acute inpatient rehabilitation programmes across a variety of clinical settings with evidence of MDT collaboration and hospital discharge planning
- *Can demonstrate an in depth understanding of relevant areas of therapy, the effect of illness/clinical conditions / disability on function and health and basic aims of rehabilitation
