Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust currently has an opening for a full time substantive consultant plastic surgeon to join our skin oncology and Ortho Plastic Extremity Trauma (OPET) Multidisciplinary team. UHB Plastic Surgery department is one of the UK's largest skin oncology and lower limb trauma services covering a large area of the West Midlands for both services. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in working in an MDT setting-with experience in skin oncology-with independent operating capabilities offering all aspects of skin oncology, including Sentinel lymph node biopsy, Groin and axillary lymph node dissections and electrochemotherapy. In terms of OPET-we are looking for individuals who can provide acute lower limb trauma reconstructions during on calls and provide an elective orthoplastic reconstruction service on a pro rota basis as part of the UHB OPET team. They must be capable of offering microsurgical free tissue transfer for both groups of patients.
The post holder will work as a member of a team of Consultant Plastic Surgeons, based at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust with and have commitments in Burton Hospital as part of the service level agreement.
Main duties of the job
Working as part of Skin oncology MDT and OPET Multi Disciplinary team. This work can be based in either at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Burton Hospital. The post holder will also provide support for elective orthoplastic clinics and theatre sessions on a rotational basis.
The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to departmental teaching and support juniors with projects leading to publications and presentations. Funding is available for approved study leave as defined in the Trust study leave policy. The post holders will be expected to participate in the Specialist Skin cancer MDT, Weekly Orthoplastic MDT on a pro rota basis and departmental consultant meetings and partake in audits, quality improvement projects and clinical governance, as well as continuing professional development. The on-call duties are one in eleven at Queen Elizabeth Hospital
Job Plan will Include:
*Outpatient clinic sessions
*Specialist Skin oncology MDT (SSMDT) meeting and Joint Skin Oncology Clinics (JSOC)
*Theatre sessions to independently perform primary and metastatic trunk and extremity skin cancers including Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy, axillary and groin dissections and different types of reconstruction and management of metastatic disease using ElectroChemoTherapy (ECT).
*Provide Lower limb trauma reconstruction-acute and semi elective as part of the OPET MDT.
*Theatre Sessions, outpatient clinics and MDT's as part of the Burton service level agreement
