Job summary
We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Band 4 Medical Secretary to work in the busy Hands and Peripheral Nerve Injury department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to cover maternity within the department. You will be working with an established and friendly team of medical secretaries.
The successful candidate would be required to work core-working hours from Monday-Friday totalling 37.5 hours a week throughout the 9 month contract.

Main duties of the job
To provide and receive complex information on a daily basis. To exercise initiative and judgement based on acquired knowledge and experience when dealing with enquiries of a clinical and non-clinical nature.
To touch type from audio and / or shorthand the following documents: clinical letters; results letters; discharge summaries; reports in response to complaints; This requires an understanding of medical terminology, phraseology and medications, as well as high levels of concentration.
Other duties consist of diary management, clinic cancellations and setting up of extra clinics. Monitoring both inpatient and outpatient waiting lists. Looking at rotas and reorganising clinics due to ward weeks, on call, annual and study leave.
Provide excellent telephone skills. Accurately record telephone messages and other enquiries and refer as appropriate.
