Senior Fellow in Advanced Luminal Endoscopy

Job summary

Applications are invited for a Senior Fellow in Advanced Luminal Endoscopy. This post would provide excellent training for a post CCT level consultants/near equivalent with interests in advanced therapeutic luminal endoscopy. The position would enable the successful candidates to develop skills in the endoscopic management of complex polyps, fistulas, strictures, stents, upper GI endoscopic ultrasound and Barrett's neoplasia as well as develop research themes and gain publications in peer-reviewed literature and presentations at conferences. There is potential to complete publications, apply for grants and develop a future research post in the trust with view to a future MD or PhD for an interested and appropriate candidate

Main duties of the job

. In order to enable this opportunity, there is a service commitment element of the job for which the ability to perform independent endoscopy and have a background in GI medicine is required including:

*Contribution to weekly gastroenterology clinics

*Perform ad hoc weekday service endoscopy lists independently

*Perform monthly weekend service endoscopy lists (max 1 in 4) independently or on call weekend middle grade gastroenterology ward cover instead (max 1 in 8)

*Perform monthly evening service list during fellow of the week (estimate 1 list every 4 weeks)

*Cover fellow of the week rota (weekdays 1 in 6) to backfill some fallow in and out-patient service lists and assist with triage of urgent GI bleeds and in patient referrals.

Endoscopy triage schedules are undertaken under the supervision of Dr Butt (Endoscopy Training Lead) and wider job planned activities mostly under the supervision of Dr Riad Alame (Clinical Service Lead -- Endoscopy). The post is based in Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham but occasionally may involve ad hoc working on other sites within the trust.
