Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Financial Controller to provide expert financial leadership across commercial activities within the Trust. This pivotal role supports UHB's strategic ambition to Build Healthier Lives by ensuring that commercial income streams, ventures, partnerships, and contracts are financially robust, deliver value, and align with our core values -- Kind, Connected, Bold.

The postholder will lead the financial oversight of the Trust's commercial portfolio, driving highquality financial governance and ensuring commercial initiatives contribute effectively to UHB's strategic priorities for Patients, People, Potential, Place, and Performance.

At UHB you will join one of the largest and most forwardthinking NHS Foundation Trusts in the country. You'll work within a supportive and inclusive environment, contributing directly to the success of commercial initiatives that help strengthen and sustain patient care.

This role is primarily based at Regent Court, near Five Ways Island in central Birmingham, with the expectation of being on site at least three days per week, alongside the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week.

Main duties of the job

Lead financial management and oversight of commercial activities and subsidiaries within UHB.

Provide highquality financial planning, forecasting, and commercial modelling to support strategic decisionmaking.

Ensure commercial ventures and income streams are developed, evaluated, and monitored using robust financial frameworks.

Produce timely, accurate, and insightful financial analysis and performance reports for senior stakeholders.

Support strong financial governance across contracts, partnerships, and business cases to maximise value for the Trust.

Advise senior leaders on financial risks, opportunities, and commercial strategy.

Foster collaborative working relationships with operational, financial, and external partners to strengthen commercial performance.

Ensure all activities align with UHB's values and the Trust's commitment to delivering highquality, sustainable healthcare services.
