Applications are invited for an Education Fellow supporting Undergraduate Medical Education at the Trust commencing as soon as possible until 07/08/2026.
The Medical Education Department provides high-quality teaching and training for students on clinical placement within the Trust. The post holder will work with Undergraduate Managers and the Head and Deputy Heads of Academy to ensure teaching aligns with curriculum requirements and learning outcomes from the University of Birmingham and Aston University.
The role involves developing and delivering clinical teaching for undergraduate students, supporting them in gaining essential knowledge and skills. The post holder will also assist with clinical examinations hosted by the Trust and help facilitate assessments and related educational activities.
Working with the Head and Deputy Heads of Academy, the post holder will contribute to auditing, developing and improving teaching programmes and clinical placements. Opportunities to participate in research or audits related to medical education within the Trust may also be available.
This role provides direct undergraduate teaching experience and opportunities to help develop educational resources and innovative teaching methods. The position is primarily based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with occasional work across other UHB sites.
Main duties of the job
Time will be allocated to maintain up-to-date clinical practice and undertake continued professional development. This will be arranged around teaching duties, with an expectation that at least 80% of time is dedicated to teaching
*To deliver clinical teaching to undergraduate medical students from the University of Birmingham and Aston University during their clinical placements within the Trust. This includes lectures, small group seminars, structured bedside teaching, and supporting clinical skills teaching.
*To support the Academy in ensuring that teaching aligns with the curriculum requirements set by the University of Birmingham and Aston University. The post holder will assist students in achieving the learning outcomes for each year of study.
*The Trust provides clinical placements for students in Year 3, Year 4, and Year 5 across multiple specialties. This includes teaching in areas such as Integrated Medicine and Surgery (Year 3), Specialty Medicine (Year 4), and Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Year 5). The post holder will be involved in delivering teaching and supporting students through these modules.
*To be familiar with the electronic curriculum and University web-based learning platform. The post holder will provide support for self-directed learning and guide students in accessing online resources.
*To collaborate in delivering clinical skills teaching, ensuring students gain the hands-on experience required to complete their Skills Passports and meet competency requirements.

This collaborative team structure ensures that there is comprehensive support for all teaching activities.
*The Trust has excellent teaching and support facilities within the Education Centres, which are equipped with modern resources to facilitate interactive and engaging learning experiences for students.
*The post holder will work closely with the Undergraduate Medical Education teaching leads to provide feedback through the University's and Deanery's Quality Assurance processes. This ensures that all teaching activities meet the expected standards for accreditation and compliance.
There will be time for the post holder to ensure that clinical practice is kept up-to-date and to undertake a programme of continued professional development. The nature of this will be negotiated with the successful candidates.
