Job summary
The post holder will work as part of the Community Podiatry Service across Solihull, supporting registered podiatrists to deliver high-quality, safe, and effective foot health care in community clinics, domiciliary settings, and care homes.
The role involves undertaking delegated clinical foot care treatments for moderate-risk patients, promoting foot health, supporting prevention strategies, and identifying when to escalate concerns to registered clinicians. The post holder will contribute to improving patient mobility, independence, and overall wellbeing.
Working under the supervision of a registered podiatrist, the post holder will work both independently within defined competencies and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Care will be delivered in line with organisational policies, clinical governance standards, and local and national NHS priorities. The role requires effective communication, good clinical judgement within scope of practice, and the ability to manage a varied caseload across community settings.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will deliver delegated foot health care to patients in community clinics, care homes, and domiciliary settings, including basic nail care, skin care, and callus reduction within agreed competencies. They will monitor patients' foot health, recognise changes such as infection or deterioration, and escalate concerns appropriately to a registered podiatrist.
They will provide foot health education and advice to support prevention and self-care, while maintaining patient dignity, privacy, and comfort. Accurate and timely clinical records must be maintained using appropriate systems, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
The role includes planning and managing own workload, supporting clinic efficiency, and working flexibly across community locations. The post holder will adhere to all organisational policies, infection prevention standards, and clinical guidelines, and contribute to service development through participation in audits and quality improvement.
They may support the induction and training of junior staff and will be expected to maintain their own professional development and competency.
