Band 7 Chief Paediatric Audiologist - Audiology

Job summary

A great opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals Birmingham for an advanced audiologist to join the team on a fixed term basis. We are looking for a dynamic audiologist with a great understanding of not only the clinical aspects of the role, but also to extend their leadership skills and knowledge to support the team.

Main duties of the job

This is an advanced level role combining high level specialist clinical work in the areas of paediatric, diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology with managerial, supervisory and administrative duties. The post holder is required to work autonomously with the responsibility for the day to day running of the paediatric service and will deputise for the Audiology Service Leads as required. The post requires an extremely high level of scientific knowledge, very high skill levels in performing the diagnostic tests and fitting hearing aids and the ability to communicate well with children, parents, and other professionals.

All work should be carried out in as flexible, sensitive, supportive and family friendly manner as possible. Other duties include undertaking clinical supervision and training for junior staff. The post holder is expected to update their own professional knowledge.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • *MSc or equivalent level qualification in Audiology with Certificate of Competence in Audiology (CAC or equivalent eg STP).
  • OR
  • Audiologist with 1.1 or 2.1 BSc (Hons)/ BAAT 1+2, and post qualification experience to include paediatric audiology.
  • *Registration with (RCCP, HCPC, AHCS, HAD)

Desirable

  • *Membership of BAA, BSA
  • *Post graduate management/leadership training or experience as a supervisor.
  • *Recognised Leadership Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • *Advanced knowledge and experience in paediatric audiology, including habilitation of deaf infants and children to include those with complex needs.
  • *Demonstrable experience in the relevant clinical areas and evidence of clinical competency with a complex patient caseload
  • *Specialist knowledge of routine and non-routine diagnostic / therapeutic audiological assessment procedures, their interpretation and their implications for patient management
  • *Knowledge of BSA and BAA clinical guidance and recommended procedures

Desirable

  • *Experience of line managing staff.
  • *Experience in participating in clinical supervision.
  • *Knowledge of the IQIPs criteria
  • *Participation in research and development activities, including audit of clinical outcomes as required.
