Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of senior fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics to work in the Foot & Ankle team, who is interested in the field of complex Foot & ankle conditions including trauma and post-trauma reconstruction, with an aim to consultant career in the specialty. This post is suitable for a senior post-CCT trainee who would like to improve their skills in the management various Foot & Ankle condition including sports injury and complex hindfoot and post trauma reconstruction, ankle arthroscopy, arthrodesis, ligament reconstruction, ankle arthroplasty
Main duties of the job
This Trust has been selected to sponsor a BOA Future Leadership Program Fellow. It is a National Orthopaedic Clinical leadership program conducted by British orthopaedic Association for Senior trainees in Orthopaedics.
The program aims to create an alumnus of leaders with the ability to improve the delivery of surgical care and to influence positive change within the profession by equipping them with the advanced leadership skills necessary to excel.
Completion of the Fellowship may lead to a Post Graduate Certificate in leadership program. The Certificate is expected to be of considerable value when applying for consultant posts.
Even though the Trust sponsors the Fellow for Future Leadership Program, it is subject to acceptance by the BOA onto the programme once the Fellow is appointed.

- The fellow will be expected to play a senior clinical role in the management of complex acute and post-acute foot & ankle cases along with non acute Foot & ankle conditions. This will involve elective theatre lists, elective and trauma outpatient clinics and pre and post-operative ward work. The Fellow will take active part in the weekly Foot & Ankle and radiology MDT.
- There may be scope for independent practice, depending on the experience of the fellow. The fellow is expected to take a lead in the development and expansion of the tertiary hindfoot reconstruction service.
- There is lots of opportunity for research and the Fellow is expected to do a service improvement project once selected onto the BOA Future Leadership program. They are also encouraged to publish research projects and present at National & International Conferences.
- The fellow may be expected to perform on-call duties on some of the weekends (in conjunction with the foot and ankle team) but will not participate in the general on call rota. He may also expect to provide some on call cover during normal office hours to support the department but not at the expense of the clinical exposure from the fellowship.
