Job summary
We are looking for a highly skilled individual who will play an integral part in providing service and maintenance. The Senior Tradesperson (Electrical) plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of electrical systems across University Hospitals Birmingham (Solihull Hospital). Working within the Estates (Electrical) team, the postholder provides skilled maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of a wide range of complex electrical infrastructure -- including lowvoltage distribution, HVAC motors and pumps, lifesafety systems, standby generators, lighting, UPS/IPS, security systems and more
Main duties of the job
Service, test, diagnose, repair and calibrate complex electrical systems and equipment (e.g., LV distribution, HVAC motors/pumps, lighting, UPS/IPS, fire detection, generators, security systems
Undertake routine testing, commissioning, and inspections in line with British Standards, HTMs, manufacturer instructions, and Codes of Practice
Carry out installation work, minor upgrades and adaptation works
Act as a Competent Person within HTM 0602 (electrical) and HTM08 (lifts), ensuring safe systems of isolation and permittowork compliance
Follow all health & safety procedures, risk assessments, and safe working practices, including PPE use
Use the CAFM system to manage, prioritise and record planned maintenance and breakdown work
Supervise maintenance assistants, apprentices, and specialist contractors, ensuring quality of work
Support prioritising team workload and assist in staff appraisal, development, and training
