Job summary
As part of our recruitment strategy, we are looking for Band 3 Maternity Care Assistant to join our community team.
The role of the Maternity Care Assistant (MCA) is to support the delivery of high-quality safe care to women and babies. The MSW will be a competent individual, working as a member of the Community Midwifery team. The MCA will work within in/direct supervision of a registered Midwife but still be guided by the midwife's expertise. The MCA will work with individual women, families and in group settings throughout the pregnancy and the postnatal period. The MCA will undertake a range of duties including personal care of women and babies, providing information and advice on self-care, infant care and initiating breastfeeding, health promotion, clerical, educational and housekeeping duties to ensure the smooth running of the Community Midwifery team.
Main duties of the job
To establish and maintain excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication between the midwifery and multidisciplinary team, women and their families.
To follow written and verbal instructions from the registered midwife in relation to the care of the woman and baby.
To clearly document all care given to the woman and baby in accordance with the Trust's guidelines, maintaining charts as necessary.
To respect the confidentiality of information at all times.
To ensure that complaints or concerns are escalated to the midwife in charge as soon as possible.
To participate in team meetings and to be an effective member of the team.
To work in collaboration and partnership with multi agency and multidisciplinary teams.
To assist with the preparation and organisation of a range of antenatal/postnatal clinics.
To arrange appointments, ultrasound scans, investigations and obtain laboratory

Essential
- *Evidence of Maths/English qualifications at Level 2 or above.
- *Completion of a competency-based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification at Level 3 i.e. For level 3 this could include AS/ A levels, Access to higher Education Diploma in health care support, Apprenticeships, NVQ Level 3, BTEC national Diploma award or nationals.
- *Care Certificate or can demonstrate prior skills, knowledge and experience that meet the 15 minimum standards described by Health Education England (HEE) Skills for Health.
- *Internationally educated applicants will have to evidence UK ENIC (the UK National Information Centre) Statements of compatibility.

- *Previous experience working in a patient facing Clinical Support Worker/Maternity Care Assistant role providing direct patient care in health or social care as part of a team.
- *Understanding of the principles of safeguarding in relation to this role
- *Ability to demonstrate/ articulate an understanding of the role and tasks involved and can describe the physical and emotional aspects of the role and some duties which are different to that of a Band 2 Maternity Care Assistant
- *Can link the Trust values (Kind, Connect & Bold) to the role and provide examples from personal experience which demonstrate understanding in relation to the role.
- *Can explain why training / education and approaches to care need to be consistent in relation to clinical safety and the experience of care and treatment that people and their families have.
- *Can demonstrate ability / experience in supporting adults/ infants holistically.
