Band 3 Stores Team Leader - Catering

Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Stores Team Leader operate the ordering, receipt, and delivery of catering provisions at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Working with a team you will be responsible to managing a core team of fifteen staff ensuring rotas are completed on a weekly basis and managing time and attendance systems.

You will provide daily supervision for food safety and hygiene standards within the production areas, monitoring and reporting shortfalls in environmental standards reactively and with the completion monthly in house audits.

It will be the role of the post holder to training and development of staff within the production team, completing annual appraisals and mandatory training compliance.

As post holder your main responsibilities are for the effective monitoring and ordering of catering provisions for patient and retail catering operations at the QE site. Managing our chiller department to provide meals to our 1300 in-patients via our electronic meal order system.

You will be responsible for overseeing the receipt, storage, and internal distribution of perishable and non-perishable delivery items.

The ideal candidate must have effective communication skills as you will be liaising with internal enquires from a wide range of ward-based teams and developing relationships with our suppliers externally.

Ideal candidate would also have strong basic computer skills, with knowledge of using Excel, and Microsoft based platforms

Main duties of the job

Coordinate day-to-day service delivery within the catering stores function, ensuring safe and effective staffing through rota oversight, bank and agency use. Manage annual leave approvals within agreed levels and ensure appropriate cover.

Record and approve attendance using Trust systems, meeting payroll deadlines and escalating discrepancies. Implement and communicate Trust and departmental policies and procedures.

Undertake return-to-work and first-stage attendance reviews in line with Trust policy, supporting rehabilitation and improving attendance. Provide pre-disciplinary counselling and address performance or conduct concerns, escalating where required.

Maintain high standards of uniform, hygiene and professional behaviour. Monitor working practices to ensure compliance with departmental, Trust and national standards and support service improvements.

Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, including daily briefings. Support recruitment, induction and training, ensuring compliance with mandatory and food safety training.

Support operational service delivery as required. Monitor stock and equipment availability, reporting defects and incidents via appropriate systems and supporting first-line investigations.

Ensure safe food handling in line with Food Safety legislation and HACCP, including stock rotation, date control and temperature monitoring.
