28-Bedded Renal Ward with Renal Assessment Unit
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and compassionate Band 7 Ward Manager to lead our 28bedded Renal Ward, which includes a dynamic Renal Assessment Unit. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about renal care, service improvement, and effective team leadership.
About the Role
As Ward Manager, you will provide professional, visible, and supportive leadership to the ward team, ensuring high standards of patient care and a positive staff experience. You will work closely with a wide range of partners, including:
The Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)
Renal Specialist CNS teams
The Dialysis Unit and wider renal services
You will be responsible for daytoday operational management, clinical oversight, staff development, patient flow, and quality governance within this specialist area.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
Provide strong clinical leadership and role modelling.
Oversee safe, effective, and compassionate patient care on the Renal Ward and Assessment Unit.
Lead, support, and develop the nursing team, ensuring high morale and excellent standards.
Manage staffing, rotas, sickness, appraisals, and performance.
Work collaboratively with MDT, CNS teams, and dialysis services to ensure seamless patient pathways.
Drive quality improvement initiatives and contribute to service development.
Ensure compliance with Trust policies, governance processes, and national renal standards.
Essential Criteria
Band 6 experience, including managing and supporting staff.
Evidence of leadership abilities and experience in coordinating a clinical area.
Strong communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships across teams.
Commitment to delivering high-quality renal patient care.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Criteria
Experience within renal services.
Leadership or management qualifications.
Experience with quality improvement or service development projects.

- *Substantial relevant and recent clinical experience within a complex health care setting or Acute NHS setting working as a deputy Manager Band 6 position including the supervision and education of junior staff/ students .
- *Can demonstrate understanding / experience / in practice based supervision / assessment as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment
- *Demonstrable current, recent experience of team leadership and management within the healthcare setting.
