Exciting Opportunity: Emergency Nurse / Paramedic Practitioner
Are you a nurse or paramedic ready for a fast-paced, rewarding role? Join us as a qualified Emergency Practitioner (ENP/EP) and deliver expert care to patients of all ages in our emergency and urgent care settings. You'll assess, diagnose, treat, and prescribe, working alongside a skilled, supportive multidisciplinary team.
We're looking for practitioners with university-accredited qualifications in Minor Injury, Minor Illness, and Non-Medical Prescribing. Not quite there yet? A developmental post is available for those with two of the three qualifications (one must be Minor Injury) -- with a commitment to complete the third within a fixed timeframe.

Main duties of the job
Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations
Diagnose and manage acute illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies across all age groups
Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic X-rays.
Initiate and manage treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapeutic interventions
Perform emergency and minor procedures (e.g., suturing, wound care, splinting, incision and drainage)
Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and respond to emergency situations and trauma activations
Collaborate with emergency physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care
Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care
Document patient care accurately and timely in electronic health records
Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Participate in quality improvement, education, and evidence-based practice initiatives

Essential
- Nursing & Midwifery Council Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Paramedic or Physiotherapist
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by evidence of post graduate academic courses, short course and development of clinical competencies in practice evidenced in the following areas:
- *Minor Injury Management (Level 6/7)
- *Consultation Skills
- *Physical Examination Skills
- *IRMER (Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulation)
- *Interpretation of Images (Red Dot course)
- *Adult / Child Life Support Courses
- *PGD Training / practice aligned to Trust procedures
- *Minor Illness Management (Level 6/7) or Non-Medical Prescriber with willingness to undertake the post graduate element not completed
- Plus further specialist training to masters equivalent level.
Experience
Essential
- Considerable experience working as a Band 6 or equivalent in autonomous assessment of minor injury who has a post graduate qualification completed either Minor Illness or Non-Medical Prescribing.
- Demonstrable ability / experience in working in a multi professional approach to health care delivery and can demonstrate appreciation for complexities of patient access to primary /secondary and voluntary care settings.
- Demonstrable understanding of the NHS England Urgent and Emergency Care -- Emergency Practitioner Framework 2023.
- Can demonstrate understanding of the National NHS Emergency Care target and the relationship with the role.
- Demonstrable scope of extended practice relevant to the role and can evidence post graduate training in skills related to the role including:
- *Plastering
- *Suturing
- *Wound management / assessment
- Experience in the supervision, mentoring and assessment of learners and junior staff.
- Experience in leading and managing teams working in a health / care relating practice setting.
- Experience in participating in the development and updating of policy and procedure.
- Experience in supporting service change and improvement in a health and care related practice setting.
- Demonstrable understanding of UK NHS frameworks and approaches to Emergency and Urgent Care and its application across NHS services.
Desirable
- Prior experience working as an Emergency Practitioner at Band 6 or Equivalent in an urgent / emergency care practice setting as an autonomous practitioner.
- Experience in the recruitment and selection of staff
