Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust is a large organisation, based in the vibrant city of Birmingham, now covering four busy hospital sites and a community service. This Adult Speech and Language Therapy position is a rotational post and will be based at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospital sites providing input to adult clients across in-patients including stroke, early supported discharge and ENT services.

We are pleased to offer this excellent opportunity to join our dynamic team and gain experience rotating through this broad spectrum of adult clinical caseloads and settings. Within our band 5 rotational structure there is the opportunity to work with communication, dysphagia and voice caseloads within both the hospital and community settings.

A desire to work with an adult caseload is essential and post graduate experience in the relevant clinical areas is desirable but not essential; however the successful candidate will have at least undergraduate experience in the relevant clinical areas. Dysphagia competence is desirable but training can be provided within post. You will be joining a large and supportive therapy team with excellent training and development opportunities as well as a robust supervision and appraisal system. You will have the opportunity to work alongside highly specialist staff and integrate into a variety of specialist multi-disciplinary teams.

The Trust provides a 7-day service. You will be required to participate in 7 day working rotas as required.

Main duties of the job

To provide a Speech and Language Therapy service across the full range of communication and swallowing impairments within the fields of general medicine, elderly medicine, acquired neurology, community and ENT/Voice with the support and guidance of senior Staff within the Trust.

The Trust is committed to providing a weekend therapy service. The role includes participation in a weekend service and local arrangements will apply dependent upon clinical need in the service area.

You must be a car driver in order to meet the essential travel requirements of the post.
