Job summary
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Phlebotomists to join our Phlebotomy Department, delivering a high-quality, patient-focused blood collection service across the Trust. The role involves safely and efficiently obtaining blood samples, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring excellent patient care while working closely with clinical teams.

Main duties of the job
The Inpatient Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting high-quality blood specimens from hospitalized patients in a safe, timely, and compassionate manner. This role supports physicians, nurses, and laboratory staff by ensuring specimens are accurately collected, labeled, and delivered for diagnostic testing.
Core Responsibilities include:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws on patients in inpatient units
- Correctly identify patients using approved identification protocols
- Label, handle, and transport specimens according to laboratory and hospital policies
- Follow infection control, safety, and compliance standards at all times
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, nurses, and clinical staff
- Respond to routine, STAT, and timed lab collection requests
- Document collections accurately in the laboratory or electronic medical record system
- Assist in maintaining phlebotomy supplies, carts, and work areas

- *Experience of recent working in an acute hospital / provider led healthcare environment as an Health Care Support Worker
- *Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
- *Experience of carrying out assigned duties after training and using initiative
- *Competent in a range of clinical skills and practices relevant to the scope of practice required
- *Understanding of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity
- *Awareness of Health and Safety issues
- *Has knowledge in relation to the parameters and scope of practice in which the post holder should work and when to seek advice and support of others
