Job summary
The Ear, Nose and Throat service is looking to recruit a highly motivated, reliable, and focused Medical Secretary to join our experience and welcoming team. We are a creative and innovative team working in one of the largest services in the Trust, so require someone who is flexible to change and adaptable to the pressures of changing priorities and urgent tasks. A proactive approach, good judgement, initiative and critical thinking skills are crucial to managing this diverse and demanding role.
Please note whilst the trust offers sponsorship this role is unfortunately not eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK skilled worker visa route. This is due to the position not meeting the minimum salary threshold
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can work to strict deadlines with excellent communication, prioritisation and typing skills. Knowledge of medical terminology and previous secretarial experience is desirable but training will be provided.
Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to consultants and the clinical team, including managing patient pathways such as clinic and theatre bookings, follow up appointments and waiting lists, and typing and distributing clinical correspondence (including clinic letters and reports).
Handle telephone and email enquiries from patients, GPs and internal departments in a professional manner, coordinate clinics and diaries, support with RTT targets, and deal sensitively with confidential and sometimes distressing information.
Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload, a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, a good understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a professional, calm and compassionate approach when dealing with patients and colleagues.
