Job summary
Pathology is the department that studies and understands how illness and diseases develop and the impact they have on people. Across University Hospital Birmingham's (UHB) the pathology laboratories support patient care through diagnosis, treatment and research through their well respected and accredited laboratories.
Our administrative and clerical teams are essential to the smooth running of the laboratories, and the Cellular Pathology department is seeking Medical Secretary Supervisor to join their team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive secretarial support, working closely with colleagues and the office manager having a positive impact on patient care.
Although the role will be site specific (Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham or Birmingham Heartlands Hospital), there may occasionally be a requirement to work cross-site. As part of this team, you will be a reliable and committed secretary who represents out Trust values of Kind, Connected and Bold. Previous secretarial experience is desirable, along with strong organisational and communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.
Please note whilst the trust offers sponsorship this role is unfortunately not eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK skilled worker visa route. This is due to the position not meeting the minimum salary threshold

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can work to strict deadlines with excellent communication, prioritisation and typing skills. Knowledge of medical terminology and previous secretarial experience is desirable.
The successful candidate will handle confidential and sensitive information, interacting with people at all levels. Strong teamwork and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential.
Duties will include typing reports, email and telephone queries, handling diagnostic material, co-ordinating Multi-Disciplinary Meetings (MDT's), incoming and outgoing post and liaising with medical and laboratory colleagues.
