Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Fixed Term Research Fellow, within the Burns Department, in the department of Burns and Plastic Surgery. The post will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, part of the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. This post will be for a period of 12 months.
We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate wanting to increase their experience in research whilst gaining clinical experience in the management of burns in one of the largest Burns Centres in the UK. The job provides an opportunity to participate in all stages of burns research, with the potential to apply for further funding to continue. The department has a long history of research activity with regular participation in national and international meetings.
This is a research post funded by the University Hospitals Birmingham to support research in Burn Surgery. The post holder will be supported by other research staff including research nurses, technical staff and trial administrators.
Main duties of the job
The principal duties will include:
1) Supporting the delivery of ongoing clinical research trials within the department.
2) Generating feasibility data to support new grant applications/fellowships
3) Analysis of data; with potential to present at conferences/ meetings and assist with writing publications
4) Liaising with other medical, nursing and therapy staff within the burn surgery team and as appropriate and contributing to the clinical service and trials currently ongoing.
5) Gaining experience in the assessment and management of patients within the department of burn surgery.
6) Participating in daily burns acute Hot Clinics
7) Participating in daily ward round
The post holder will be an active member of relevant clinical trials carried out with tasks delegated according to the study protocol. The post holder will be expected to complete Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and to comply with MHRA and Trust regulations in regard to clinical research.
Whist this is not a training post, it is envisaged that the post-holder will gain considerable experience and knowledge in the medical and surgical management of burns.
