Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHB) is recruiting to a Consultant Oncologist, to join their dynamic team. The post holder will work across Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust via a Service Level Agreement, delivering colorectal care, service development, independent ward rounds and AOS care. They will also deliver one day a week at QEH, delivering breast oncology clinics.
The post holder will be clinically responsible and employed by UHB, although majority of job plan will be at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.
UHBs Oncology service delivers an extensive range of systemic anti-cancer treatments and radiotherapy treatments. Consultant-led clinics are delivered face to face and virtually, from dedicated Oncology/Haematology units at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (BHH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and Solihull Hospital (SHH). Bespoke Day Unit facilities support the delivery of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive treatments from each hospital site. Inpatient Oncology care is delivered at all of UHBs sites, supported by the Acute Oncology Team (AOS) and Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) service. QEHB has two dedicated Oncology wards for elective inpatient treatment and emergency admissions. There is also an inpatient and day case Young Persons Unit (YPU).
Main duties of the job
There are bespoke day-case, outpatient and inpatient services across the acute hospital sites of Birmingham: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Heartlands Hospital (BHH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and non-acute site of Solihull Hospital (SH), with a network of clinics, CNS/nurse-led services, ACP and AOS provision at all sites, with Consultant led care.
The new consultant can expect to join a supportive team of Consultant Oncologists, working across our four hospital sites (QE, BHH, GHH and SHH). There are regular team meetings, including monthly consultant meetings, regular governance meetings, sub-speciality MDTs. There is also an opportunity to take on additional lead roles within the department, specialising in areas such as chemotherapy lead, M&M lead, governance lead and education leads.

Clinical
The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience and specific interest in the management of breast,
colorectal and AOS Oncology.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop disease specific areas of interest, working alongside
the current Oncology team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust. In keeping with the departments ambition as a
teaching hospital, the appointee will have the opportunity to engage in research and would be encouraged to
utilise world class expertise based on Campus within the University of Birmingham (UoB), the Cancer Research
Clinical Trials Unit and the Institute for Translational Medicine to progress the research strategy under the
umbrella of Birmingham Health Partners
