Job summary
We are excited to invite applications for a consultant vacancy with the Colorectal and General Surgery service based at Good Hope Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust in the West Midlands.
The post will be based at the Good Hope site with some elective theatre commitments also located on the Solihull Hospital site. A declared interest and clinical experience in the management of Pelvic Foor conditions is desirable.
The colorectal surgery team at Good Hope Hospital offers a comprehensive service treating colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor, and proctology. The Good Hope colorectal team also offers regional services for early rectal cancer and TEMS, and cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC for colorectal peritoneal metastases and other peritoneal malignancies.
Main duties of the job
To attend Specialist MDTs.
To conduct theatre sessions, clinics, and rotational on call allocations.
To contribute to the Endoscopy service.
To participate in regular clinical audit.
To ensure that clinical services are efficiently administered.
To maintain CPD.
To participate actively in clinical governance and to develop audit / research interests within the resources available.
As this is a post in a developing Trust structure, the role will be reviewed from time to time, and the post holder is expected to respond flexibly to develop this and/or other roles to enable the trust to meet differing priorities.

The post holder will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of the service, across both elective and emergency pathways. The post holder will also take part in the Good Hope emergency on call rota (1:8) and the Solihull Consultant of the week rota (1:24).
This is a replacement post to allow continuity of the service but also to ensure there is sufficient sub-speciality cover within the team and to provide succession planning for colleagues. The post holder will support the general and colorectal service to ensure maximal session utilisation within colorectal and general surgery. The post holder will be part of the colorectal team based at Good Hope Hospital site but also work collaboratively with colleagues on the Heartlands, Solihull, & Queen Elizabeth hospital sites as part of the wider UHB Colorectal Network.
