Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist within the Haematology department. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual, to help deliver a high-quality, first-class service to our users.
Our Trust is one of the largest acute hospital Trusts in England and is composed of four hospital sites; Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QE), Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital (HGS).
Additional funding has been awarded to recognise the growth within our Trust. In 2024 we saw our new 45 million elective hub at Solihull Hospital open, Heartlands Treatment Centre became fully operational, and our services continued to expand at Good Hope and QE.
The laboratory is ISO15189 and MHRA accredited, approved for IBMS training and military training facility. Additionally, the laboratory situated on the QE site is the nominated Coagulation laboratory for the West Midlands Regional Haemophilia comprehensive care service, and a designated Trauma Centre.
The ideal candidate must be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. Applicants will rotate through Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion and therefore must have an IBMS accredited Degree and relevant IBMS Specialist Portfolio. You will be expected to work collaboratively within the laboratory team. You will be committed to providing a high standard of service to our patients and partake in the quality programme of the laboratory. You should have an understanding of legislation, regulation and the maintenance of compliance with ISO 15189:2022.
After appropriate training you will be expected to participate in the departmental shift system which attracts AfC enhanced payments.
Applications will be considered from individuals who require the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology & Hospital Transfusion Science. In these circumstances successful applicant salaries will be as per AFC Annex 21 - 70% of the top of band 6 until awarded the diploma, which would be expected to be completed in less than two years.
