Job summary
We seek a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist to lead and develop our gastroenterology pharmacy service at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. You'll provide expert, specialised, clinical pharmacy care to the gastroenterology inpatient service, managing patients with inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure and complex GI surgery, optimising medicines use and improving patient outcomes.
Key responsibilities include leading high-cost drug management, developing clinical guidelines, supporting multidisciplinary teams, attending ward rounds, and delivering advanced pharmaceutical care. You'll line manage junior staff, contribute to service development, partake in governance and medicines management panels, and support education and research activities. Strong clinical knowledge, leadership skills, experience managing complex cases and costs, plus enthusiasm for advancing gastroenterology pharmacy are essential. Non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to obtain is preferred.

Main duties of the job
Delivering specialist clinical pharmacy service in gastroenterology inpatients and outpatients.
Leading medicine optimisation for complex therapies including biologics, immunomodulators, parenteral nutrition.
Developing, implementing, and reviewing clinical guidelines and protocols.
Managing drug expenditure and supporting commissioning processes.
Supervising and developing junior pharmacy staff and technicians.
Contributing to rotas, governance, medicines safety and quality improvement.
Leading education, training and supporting research projects.
Maintaining professional standards and compliance with Trust policies.
