We are seeking a Band 7, Paediatric Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead the day surgery/medical day case service and outpatient departments across UHB. Our designated day case unit is at Heartlands Hospital and the Children's outpatient service runs at Good Hope, Heartlands and Solihull hospitals

UHB have a large Paediatric service ran by a dynamic, talented team of professionals; this includes over 120 specialised paediatric nurses who deliver high quality, compassionate care to the local community and beyond. Our day case unit provides care for children requiring Orthopaedic, ENT, Ophthalmology, Maxillofacial, General Surgery, Endocrine treatments, Sedated procedures, MRI, CT scans amongst many other supportive investigations and treatments.

We strive to provide a positive patient experience in a safe environment for all our children and families and we actively promote a family centred care approach in the delivery of care.

We are keen to employ an experienced nurse who is enthusiastic about providing high quality clinical care, leading a team and working with the other Band 7 Lead Nurses to provide a safe, well lead Paediatric service.

Within this role there will be a requirement for you to work non clinical management shifts, support clinical cover where necessary and participate in the Band 7 rota for the Paediatrics service Mon- Fri.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated Paediatric nurse, who is proactive and has proven clinical and people management skills.

You will need to be an organised, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and inspirational leadership skills, alongside having the passion and ability to deliver high quality care to a diverse population. You will act as a role model for the nursing team across the Paediatric services, promoting a positive attitude and motivating staff members to deliver compassionate care whilst developing themselves professionally.

You will join an established senior nursing team who will support you to develop professionally. You will work alongside them to manage children's services on a day to day basis, utilising your paediatric expertise, critical thinking skills and ensuring performance and standards are monitored. Participation in a weekly on call rota, Mon-Friday working hours.

Operational management duties include maintaining a safe, clean environment, monitoring and improving ward and departmental performance, budget control, clinical governance and supporting staff wellbeing, training and providing pastoral care. The post holder is professionally accountable for the standards of clinical care delivered within their ward environment, they will undertake and supervise clinical practice, audit, research and participate in teaching to establish, monitor and continually improve the quality of the patient experience.
