Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Maxillofacial Prosthetist to join us here at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS FT as we are expanding as a team.
You will be joining an extremely dynamic and forward-thinking group of Prosthetists alongside our in-house Biomedical Engineer to be part of our team and world renowned surgical colleagues.
The department has its own established 3D Design suite that runs in parallel with our 3D printing hub.
You will be given full support to develop opportunities and skills as patient a facing prosthetist. The scope of specialties and disciplines to work and flourish within are like no other and we are seeking an individual that is keen to develop as /within all the above.
*To deliver a clinical, scientific and advisory services to patients undergoing Reconstructive procedures or Rehabilitation using implants, splints and prostheses.
*To participate in a twenty-four-hour emergency on call service.
*Deliver and be accountable and build upon our current Breast service
The Department provides a service to the following specialities at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust and regionally.
*Maxillofacial Surgery
*Major Trauma Centre (level 1)
*Craniofacial Surgery Adult/Paediatric (Supra Regional Unit)
*Cleft Unit (Regional Unit)
*Centre for Defence Medicine
*ENT
*Orthopaedics
*Musculoskeletal
*Cardiothoracic
*Cardiology
*Renal
*Plastic Surgery and Burns (Regional Unit)
*Neurosurgery (Regional Unit)
*Breast Clinic
Main duties of the job
Act as advocate for patients within the areas, to ensure a patient focused approach to the delivery of care.
To liaise with team members and schedule of patient's clinical appointments and surgical procedures.
To be responsible for organising own clinical sessions. Quality control of work produced and its delivery with the patient environment.
Coordinate and arrange treatment plans, timetabling of clinical/ technical procedures, discharge from care, referring on/back of individual cases i.e.
*Referral to ENT/ Plastics, outreach care, support services etc.
* Participate in patient case conferences/meetings.
*Complex intra-oral or intra-ocular sectional impressions.
*Fitting tissue/prosthetic abutments to osseointegrated implant fixtures.
Establish patient requirements and liaise across disciplines such as Maxillofacial, Plastics and Burns, Craniofacial, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology and Neurosurgery, i.e.:
*To include specific data/information for orthognathic surgery
*Soft and hard tissue remnant removal
*Type of incubation required
*Plan surgical procedures using specialist 3D software- i.e.:
*Septal perforations
*Implant placement
*Complex reconstructive surgery
*Facial Trauma-Gunshot wounds-RTA's
* Postburn splint appliances
* Cranioplasty etc.
*Own training and education
*National occasional standards NOS
*Best Practice and Ethical Code (IMPT) Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Technology
*Local policy.
