Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic graduate psychologist to work within a busy neuropsychology department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

The post-holder will work under the supervision of two Consultant Clinical Psychologists (in neuropsychology), a clinical psychologist and alongside a second assistant psychologist. The role entails the assessment of clients with neuropsychological difficulties arising from neurological conditions and acquired brain injury.

Typically, the post-holder will support the work of the Clinical Psychologists by administering, scoring and interpreting (under supervision) a range of psychometric tests including cognitive assessments, mood and behavioural measures.

The post-holder will work across the general outpatient neuropsychology service within neurosciences, the traumatic brain injury service, and the epilepsy surgery service across both outpatient and inpatient settings. The post holder will also support the neuropsychology input to a national sports concussion clinic led by neurosurgery colleagues.

We are a research active department and there will be opportunities for involvement in ongoing research and literature reviews. The post would suit somebody wishing to pursue a future career in clinical psychology more generally or clinical neuropsychology specifically.

Main duties of the job

*Under the clinical supervision and management of a qualified and suitably experienced professional psychologist, works independently on a day-to-day basis according to a plan and objectives agreed and reviewed at intervals with the qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of relevant team/service area policies and procedures.

*Supports qualified psychologists in the delivery of clinical services, providing individual and group based psychological interventions.

*Supports qualified psychologists in governance, audit, research and clinical administrative activities, collecting, collating and analysing data, writing and presenting reports and assisting in project development under the guidance of the psychologist as required. Uses IT equipment and software as required, including statistical, database, spreadsheet and presentational.

*Assists qualified psychologists in the planning and organisation of teaching/training programmes and undertakes/contributes to teaching and training activities as required.

*Participates in personal appraisal and continuing professional development activities as agreed with psychology line manager, including general training required in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Trust.

*In completing duties, draws on a knowledge base commensurate with a good honours degree in psychology and eligibility for graduate membership of the BPS.

  • *An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • *Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Desirable

  • *Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
