Job summary
We are excited to invite applications for a 6 month fixed term temporary consultant post with the Colorectal and General Surgery service based at Good Hope Hospital, part of the wider University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust in the West Midlands. The post will be for a period of 6 months initially with a potential option to extend for a further 6 months by mutual consent.
The colorectal surgery team at Good Hope Hospital offers a comprehensive service treating colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor, and proctology. The Good Hope Colorectal team also offers regional services for early rectal cancer and TEMS, and cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC for colorectal peritoneal metastases and other peritoneal malignancies. Sub-specialty interests and clinical experience in an area of colorectal surgery that will complement the unit, and wider colorectal network, are desirable.
The vacancy is for a Consultant General Surgeon. Specialist interest and experience in Colorectal surgery is desirable. The post will be based at the Good Hope Hospital site with possible clinical commitments also located on the Solihull Hospital site. This post will have a job plan which includes oncall commitments, outpatient, endoscopy, theatre sessions and administrative duties. The post is a whole time equivalent and will receive 10 Programmed Activities which will include the oncall responsibilities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of the service, across both elective and emergency pathways. The post holder will also take part in the Good Hope emergency on call rota (1:8) and the Solihull Consultant of the week rota (1:24).
In the management of employees of the Trust, you will be expected to follow legislation and personnel policies and procedures and to act in accordance with the principles of equality of opportunity.
