Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational day to day management of the practice setting, including standards of care, budget management and control, clinical governance staff development and training. The post holder is professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards of professional practice and standards of care. They will provide professional clinical leadership within a defined practice setting and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members within the multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will undertake and supervise clinical practice, audit, research and teaching to set, monitor and continuously improve standards of care and patient experience. The post holder is accountable for managing and developing team performance, managing a devolved budget ensuring efficient and effective use of physical and human resources.

The post holder will be professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards and professional practice as set by Trust Polices / Procedures, NMC Code of Conduct / HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and relevant professional guidelines.

This post is for 34.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and to be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred safe and compassionate care

To be accountable for co-ordinating patient care, the management of resources and deployment and performance of staff

Use a range of techniques to ensure the setting and monitoring of standards of clinical practice, audit, and research and teaching directly influence, sustain and improve the standards of care delivery and patient experience.

Ensure safe and effective clinical practice.

Enhance patient experience.

To lead, manage and develop team performance, promote professionalism and trust.

Ensure effective delivery of organisational objectives.

Ensure efficient and effective use of resources, managing a devolved budget.

Ensure effective coordination of the patient journey / pathway.

Ensure effective succession planning at all Bands.

Active promotion of the Trusts' visions, values and divisional objectives.

To carry overall responsibility for the organisation and management of the allocated Operating Theatre department cluster/ service / teams, including the supervision of students/ trainees.

To be responsible and accountable for Finance and Human Resource issues related to the practice setting

  • *NMC Registered Nurse / HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner
  • *Specialist knowledge of theatres procedures / instrumentation acquired though degree or diploma plus experience and further post registration study / experience or management qualification in a related field i.e. : anaesthetic / 1st Assistant , or an equivalent level of knowledge

  • *Health care /management / leadership qualification -at Degree or Masters Level

  • *Relevant and recent clinical experience within an acute care setting within theatres / relevant practice setting as a Band 6 deputy manager or equivalent or above including the supervision , deployment and education of junior staff
  • *Can demonstrate depth and breadth of experience of working in at least 2 areas of peri operative practice ( anaesthetics , scrub or recovery ) , and in different specialties including elective and emergency practice settings
  • *Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
  • *Evidence of effective multi-professional working with reference to decisions on issues arising from surgical emergencies and coordinating actions
  • *Experience of being a mentor , assessor and supervisor of students and junior staff
