Job summary
The post holder will work as an integral part of the clinical ward / area team and to be
responsible for the co-ordination of all patient facilities services, ensuring a clean, safe and
comfortable environment. The main elements of the role are to ensure that there is a
seamless approach to the provision of non-clinical services; ensuring the appropriate
delivery of cleaning, catering and minor maintenance, together with other specified tasks, to
meet individual patients' needs, as determined by the area manager in accordance with NHS
National Standards 2004 and ensuring core cleaning services are upheld
Provide leadership and support to the domestic staff and ward caterers
Establishing and maintaining communication with patients, visitors and Trust
colleagues regarding routine and daily activities, overcoming any differences in
communication.
Develop own knowledge and skills, and provide information to others.
Assist in maintaining own health and safety, and that of others.
Assist in maintaining and developing services for patients
Ensure own actions promote quality and alert others to quality issues.
Ensure own actions support equality, diversity and rights
Assist in assessing and addressing people's health and well-being and related
needs

Main duties of the job
Maintain adequate levels of stores to ensure the smooth running of the ward/
department / unit.
Work alongside ward and catering staff ensuring a timely delivery of meals/ snacks
and beverages to patients.
Ensure the clinical environment is well presented, well maintained and complies with
Trust Cleaning Standards, to maximise the patient's sense of comfort, safety and
wellbeing.
Communicate effectively with patients, carers, relatives, nursing staff and all
members of the multidisciplinary team, also perform additional duties as and when
directed by the ward clinical team, to enable nursing staff to undertake direct patient
care.
Ensure that ward cleaning books are maintained and reviewed.
Ensure that patient and relative confidentiality is not compromised at any time.
Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk in the care of patients.
Work as part of the ward team to ensure the continual provision of the highest
possible standards of service.
To manage own time effectively.
Ensure own actions are consistent with clinical governance systems.
