Clinical Fellow in Myeloma (Locally Employed Doctor)

Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHB) is recruiting a 12m clinical fellow for Haematology specialising in Myeloma, to join their dynamic team.

The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience and specific interest in the management of patients with multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders. The successful candidate will attend the weekly myeloma pre-clinic meeting, the myeloma section of the Thursday afternoon haemato-oncology MDT, monthly regional myeloma MDTs and participate in 1-2 myeloma clinics per week. There will also be the opportunity of the appointee to participate or sit in as an observer in some regional amyloid centre clinics if this is an area of special interest for them.

The UHB myeloma team has a very active trials portfolio, including several trials where bispecific antibodies are being delivered (MagnetisMM-32, MagnetisMM-16, MagnetisMM-7, MajesTEC-7 and MajesTEC-9). The appointee will be encouraged to play a significant role in the care of myeloma patients participating in myeloma clinical trials and the development of clinical practice founded on evidence-based medicine. The appointee will also be encouraged to attend the quarterly myeloma clinical trials portfolio update meetings.

There are no fixed inpatient commitments as part of this post, but the appointee would be expected to review patients who are admitted with complications related to bispecific antibody therapy on an as required

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be required to collect data on all multiple myeloma patients being treated with bispecific antibody treatments at UHB. The key aims of this audit data will be to assess the efficiency (bed day savings), clinical safety (reduction in hospital acquired infections, rate, severity grading and treatment of patients who develop CRS and ICANS) and patients experience during treatment with bispecific antibody therapy in patients treated on our ambulatory pathway with prophylactic Tocilizumab compared to patients completing inpatient loading.

The appointee will be required to play an appropriate part in the clinical governance and to present the audit findings to the Haematology department. The appointee will also be expected to assist in the development of an standard operating procedure for haematology-led initiation and monitoring of immunoglobulin replacement therapy for myeloma patients being treated with bispecific antibody treatments.

  • *A minimum of 4 years full-time post graduate training (its equivalent gained on a part time basis) or equivalent experience and competencies
