Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Registered Nurse to join the team on the Haematology & Oncology Day Unit at Good Hope Hospital. The unit is a nurse led unit and the post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and toxicity assessment pre administration of chemotherapy. Provide a specialist Oncology and Haematology nursing service to patients, families, carers and health professionals by demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge of the principles of the safe delivery of chemotherapy and supportive products within an out-patient setting. Provide specialist education and training which is research based, to staff caring for patients. Undertaking quality improvement initiatives such as audits, research and evidenced based practice and service development projects. In the absence of the senior sister, take charge of the clinical area to ensure effective operation of the department. The unit at GHH is open Monday-Friday 08.00-18.00hours
Main duties of the job
Manage a team of nurses, undertaking appraisals and sickness reviews
Coordinating the running of the unit and prioritise the workload
Demonstrate an experienced knowledge of chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments
Safe and efficient delivery of SACT and supportive treatments
Make clinical decisions based on patient's blood results
Leadership skills to support the nursing team
Maintain a professional manner and attitude
Work within the MDT liaising with medical team, dieticians, CNS, pharmacy and admin staff
Insertion of PICC lines essential or willing to undertake training
