Locally Employed Doctor - Surgical Rotation 2025/26

Job summary

UHB has a highly successful training programme for Locally Employed Doctors. The local training programme was introduced in 2008 and now invites applications for core training in surgical specialities, most likely commencing with Neurosurgery or Trauma & Orthopaedics. Posts may also be available to commence later in 2026 as part of a rotational programme.

Following a highly acclaimed Emergency/Acute Medicine programme UHB have now launched our LED Core Training Programme in Surgery. The programme is aimed at training junior doctors in the competencies required for the successful completion of core training in Core Surgical Training. The posts include training in all the competencies required by the respective Royal College and includes rotational placements in key medical specialties as a rotational LED.

Main duties of the job

The posts are not HEE recognised training posts but will train doctors in a similar way and with the competencies required for future progression.

The programme is a fixed term contract will consist of rotational placements in surgical specialties. The posts will be based at all 4 hospitals within UHB Trust. The post provides with opportunities to undertake complex and difficult work in a fully supported capacity in a leading edge teaching hospital. The specialities available in the rotation are:

Surgery: Trauma & Orthopaedics, ENT, Urology, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Burns & Plastics.

The rotations are designed to train for core training competencies in the respective areas. Each placement will be for 6 months before rotating to the next placement for training. Other specialities could be added in to the rotation depending upon the requirement of training and development of the Individual and availability.
