Band 7 Clinical Preceptorship Support Midwife - Community

Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the preceptorship programme, supporting the transition from student to newly qualified midwife. Acting as a role model, you will provide support for the preceptee midwives as they consolidate their learning and skills. As a member of the education team, you will work with the preceptees to enhance their experience, build confidence and establish a strong foundation for their future career.

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical leadership, guidance & support to preceptees within a variety of clinical & community setting

Use midwifery expertise as a resource to support preceptee midwives, promoting normality as well as providing guidance for high risk care

Recognise the knowledge, skills, attributes and competence of preceptee midwives at the point of registration, providing them with the appropriate resources

Enable the preceptees to achieve the aims and outcomes of the preceptorship programme.

Empower preceptees to appropriately escalate concerns and support them to build confidence within the profession

Facilitate local inductions for preceptee midwives, ensuring activities are designed to welcome and integrate them into the team and place of work

Monitor progress, rotation, achievements and attrition rates for all preceptees

To be a point of contact for the wider team, in relation to the preceptorship programme and preceptee midwives

Establish and maintain effective communication within the multidisciplinary team

To support midwives on improvement plans

Attending departmental meetings where appropriate, supporting evaluation of changes within midwifery practice. Providing feedback and reporting preceptorship updates

To support implementation of key projects as identified by the Director of Midwifery, Heads of Midwifery and matrons

To participate in audit, risk management, quality, practice and education initiatives
