Job summary

This post is a new post with the aim to deliver a 24/7 normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) service in our centre, which will lead to increased organ utilization and improved outcomes after liver transplantation. The postholder will be expected to lead the consultant delivered NRP service as well as develop a clinical and/or translational research programme on machine perfusion.

Main duties of the job

The main duty of this post involves delivering and leading an NRP organ retrieval service.

KEY SKILLS

A fully trained and experienced independent HPB surgeon

The post is based at the Liver Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful candidates primary role will be to participate in the Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP) rota on a 1 in 3.3 basis, in conjunction with the Cardiff NORS team (1 in 3.5) and five HPB/transplant surgeons (each covering 1 in 12). The successful candidate will also be expected to lead the NRP service, which will include training and mentoring of other members of the NRP team. The successful candidate will cover 88 weekdays (in 22 blocks of Monday to Thursday) on calls and 7 weekends on call (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) every 52 weeks.
