Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and adaptable individual to join and support our HIV clinical Nurse Specialist team based at Heartlands Hospital.

In conjunction with the Senior Nurse & Band 7 HIV lead, the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of high quality nursing to patients under the care of the HIV/BBV Services at University Hospital Birmingham. The successful candidate will be offered training to develop their experience as a HIV/BBV specialist nurse, offering knowledge and skills to support the field of HIV, Hepatitis, Infectious diseases, Sexual Health Practice and / or Sexual Health Advising.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have direct and remote clinical involvement and be jointly responsible for the management of a caseload of clients with complex needs, acting as a specialist in this field.

The post holder will at times work as an autonomous practitioner dealing with patients presenting with complex conditions not limited to HIV and a wide range of socio-economic issues affecting their healthcare. This will include providing highly specialist care, treatment, advice, information, education and counselling, to patients, families, partners & carers living with or affected by HIV & in accordance with the local UHB, British HIV Association [BHIVA] & British Association of Sexual Health and HIV [BASHH] and other speciality guidelines.

The successful candidate will contribute and work within a large, dedicated and supportive multi-disciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Consultants, Health Advisers, Pharmacists, therapies, social support workers, peer support & wider agencies caring for patients with diagnosed with HIV/BBV, their associated conditions and expanded health & wellbeing.

You will also assist in the transition of younger people living with HIV currently attending the regional paediatric HIV service, into the adult HIV service as part of this role. A paediatric nursing qualification is however not essential to the role.

Essential

  • * Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
  • * Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6

Desirable

  • * Health Assessment course or equivalent.
  • * Non-medical prescriber.

Experience

Essential

  • * Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
  • * Significant post registration experience, with evidence of passion / enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice
  • * Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence
  • * Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
  • * Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting
  • * Experience of working in a multidisciplinary and cross agency work environment
  • * Demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor /assessor as detailed in the NMC
