Job summary

The Birmingham Heartlands HIV Service is well known for the delivery of a high standard of care of people living with HIV. This role presents an opportunity to become part of an exciting and passionate team as a HIV Health Advisor providing expert advice, education, and psychosocial support to patients, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes.

Your role will be pivotal in promoting prevention, early diagnosis, treatment adherence, and holistic care, ensuring that patients receive compassionate, informed support tailored to their individual needs.. We are part of the national blood born virus (BBV) opt out testing team helping us diagnose more people with with blood born viruses with our main focus on HIV. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about supporting our patients through significant life changing diagnosis and helping identify anyone else who may be at risk and need testing including either partners or children of our patients. Our service runs Monday to Friday with no weekend working. You will be working closely with our team of health advisers, consultants, clinical nurse specialists and community teams to support our growing cohort of patients ensuring they stay engaged with our service and receive the highest standards of care that we can provide. You will be supported with training and development with in our service to ensure you receive everything you need to be part of our health advising team.

Main duties of the job

1) You will be a clinically based practitioner working as part of a specialist HIV health adviser team, providing a seamless nurse led public health service within the HIV service at Heartlands hospital.

2) You will be providing specialist intervention, advice and support to both newly diagnosed and long term clients within our service. You will provide planned and timely practical and psychological support around partner notification and any associated testing of contacts, practical and psychological support related to initial or onward risk of transmission of HIV and

support related to disclosure and sharing of diagnosis with others.

3) In addition you will ensure the identification, tracing and testing of children born to mothers with HIV and ensuring patients stay engaged with our service.

4) You will help promote sexual health through education along side our sexual health nurse.

5) you will maintain accurate records and uphold clinical governance.

6) Commit to ongoing professional development and evidence based practice.

7) working closely with other members of the MDT to ensure all care needs of our patients are met.
