Job summary

A Locally Employed Doctor (Higher) position is offered for a fixed term period. The post is suitable for a surgeon looking to broaden their understanding in General Surgery, complex benign Upper gastrointestinal surgery and metabolic/bariatric surgery. The post is versatile and can be tailored to individual learning requirements.

Main duties of the job

This post will be primarily based at Heartlands and Solihull Trust sites. This is a unit performing the full range of benign upper gastrointestinal surgery. The unit performs approximately 200 metabolic/bariatric surgery cases per year (including sleeve gastrectomy, roux en-y gastric bypass and one anastomosis gastric bypass). The unit performs a large number of complex hiatal and anti-reflux procedures. For trainees looking to gain more broad experience there are a large number of dedicated cholecystectomy lists which help to accelerate trainee development. There are opportunities to attend clinic and endoscopy sessions. The trust has also recently implemented a weekly robotic surgery list for benign upper gastrointestinal procedures.

  • Ability to build strong and effective relationship with patients, relatives and colleagues
  • Ability to gain confidence and Trust Ability to cope with pressure
  • Ability to respond to change
