Job summary

The Nurse Endoscopist team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust is expanding! An exciting opportunity has arisen, for a Band 8a Nurse Endoscopist to join our team.

This role provides the opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated individual to deliver a professional nurse endoscopist service. Working across Birmingham Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals you will ensure endoscopy is delivered in line with best practice with an excellent patient experience at the heart of what we do.

The post holder will be expected to deliver an endoscopic service carrying out gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy procedures to a JAG accredited standard. You must demonstrate specific skills in disorders of the GI tract, including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic techniques and subsequent management and follow up of your caseload.

The post holder will act as a clinical role model and work to continuously improve clinical care standards.

Enhancing Patient safety and Quality in Endoscopy -- A Nurse practitioners role

Main duties of the job

In partnership with the multidisciplinary team the post holder will:

*Work independently and unsupervised as an expert Advanced Practitioner in performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures, demonstrating advanced levels of clinical judgement, discretion and clinical decision making

*To be a highly experienced specialist advanced practitioner, with expert knowledge and skills in the field of endoscopy services, undertaking holistic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in accordance with the British Society of Gastroenterology and Joint Advisory Group Standards

*Develop and implement training across the department, actively implementing and provide clinical teaching and education to other colleagues (medical/nursing) in order to enhance clinical practice and improve patient care

*To lead initiatives to continuously improve quality and clinical care standards. Including the forming and leading of patient and clinical focus groups

*To develop and continuously focus on improving patient centred care and overall experience within the endoscopy care pathway

Qualifications

Essential

  • * Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register.
  • * Professional knowledge acquired through post graduate degree /supplemented by specialist training ,experience, short courses to Masters level equivalent
  • * JAG Accreditation in Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy
  • * Non-Medical Prescribing Course or willingness to undertake where this is a requirement of the role

Desirable

  • * Advanced Life Support qualification
  • * IR(ME)R Radiation exposure safety course
  • * BCSP Accrediatation

Experience

Essential

  • * Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
  • * Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • * Extensive post registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Band 7 or above in defined speciality
  • * Extensive experience of working autonomously at a specialist level
  • * Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence.
  • * Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
  • * Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
  • * Experience of patient service user advocacy role
  • * specialist care delivered to patients and give advice and information to patients /relatives/ care staff
