Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist team, based at Good Hope Hospital. The Haematology CNS' based at Good Hope cover all disease groups, including myeloma, lymphoma, myeloid and non-malignant conditions. The post-holder will work towards delivering nurse led clinics, and will be supported to undertake health assessment, non-medical prescribing and advancanced communication training if not already achieved.
We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking Haematology nurse who has experience in Haematology at Band 6 level. The Haematology team at Good Hope Hospital are welcoming and friendly, and you will be supported by the wider team based across all UHB sites, including the Haematology Lead Nurse and Matron, wider Haematology CNS team and Cancer Support Workers, BMT Coordinator team, CAR T team and Apheresis team.
The post is advertised as a Band 6 / 7 development post. Applicants with a health assessment qualification and ready to commence non-medical prescribing will be appointed at Band 7. Applicants who do not have the health assessment qualification will be appointed at Band 6 and progress to Band 7 on successful completion of the health assessment module and ready to commence non-medical prescribing. Non-medical prescribing is an essential requirement of the role, and the successful applicant will be expected to obtain this qualification.
The post-holder will be expected to start in November/December 2025.
Main duties of the job
*Act as expert key worker for patients with a Haematological diagnosis
*Support Consultant led clinics for all malignant and non-malignant disease groups
*Deliver Nurse led clinics for all malignant and non-malignant disease groups
*Checking bloods and titration of medication as required
*Supporting newly diagnosed patients admitted to Good Hope Hospital
*Review of Haematology inpatients at Good Hope Hospital where required
*Supporting patients throughout the treatment pathway from diagnosis to end of treatment or palliative care
*Supporting patients receiving bad news in clinics
*Palliative care referrals
*Non medical prescribing
*Ad hoc face to face patient reviews for psychological and symptom control
*Provide expert specialised advice to patients over the telephone and in person
*Support for patients' families
*Support and education for the Haematology / Oncology Day Unit
*Attend MDT meetings
*Attend Governance meetings
*Use of electronic systems for documentation including Somerset Cancer Register, PICS and Clinical Portal
