Endocrinology Consultant Interest in Reproductive Endocrinology

Job summary

UHB is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a regional, national, and international population. We provide nationally recognised specialised services in Endocrinology with close links with the University of Birmingham.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Endocrinology department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. There is 1 new full time consultant post available at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital due to expansion of services. We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and skilled individuals who are passionate about delivering and shaping high quality care within Endocrinology with a special interest in Reproductive Endocrinology. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting endocrinology across its inpatient and outpatient services, including general medicine and on-call.

Reproductive Endocrinology Service at QEHB links closely with clinical genetics, fertility, gynaecology and paediatric endocrinology through MDTs and joint clinics. We have dedicated clinics for men with Klinefelter syndrome and those that require spermatogenesis; women with PCOS and Turner Syndrome; patients with DSD including CAH, as well as other presentations. There is also a proposal for a Birmingham based Gender Dysphoria service. There is a research agenda focussing on womens reproductive health that the successful candidate would be encouraged to get involved.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to:

-assist with delivering high quality endocrine care

-participate in endocrinology outpatient clinics

-provide support to endocrinology specialist nurse team

-contribute to MDTs, grand round, audit and medical hot case review meetings

-provide endocrinology specialist support to other inpatient medical teams

-provide senior medical cover for inpatients with general medical and endocrinology related conditions

-participate in general medicine on-call rota/outlier cover

-support learning and development of junior medical staff and specialist nurse teams

-take the opportunity to develop an area of interest and have a leadership role in this area

Applicants should be on the GMC specialist register or be eligible for inclusion on the register within six months of the interview date and have MRCP or equivalent. Applicants should also have extensive experience in reproductive endocrinology through clinical exposure or research .
