Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Physiologist to join our Cardiac Rehabilitation Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. To apply, you will be a skilled and experienced practitioner with a BSc /BA (Hons) inSports and Exercise Science/Therapy or related field and hold a BACPR (Level 4) qualification.
The post requires you to work in a hospital and community setting providing Phase 1 to Phase 3 of the patient pathway.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Cardiac Rehabilitation Specialist Nurses to provide, plan and design a comprehensive, individualised Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme. The successful candidate should have substantial experience in:
* The assessment and management of an exercise prescription in relation to cardiac patients or patients with long term conditions.
* Planning holistic programmes of rehabilitation to meet the individual needs of the patients.
* Delivering exercise to complex patient groups with multiple co-morbidities.
* Promoting health and recovery through education using face to face consultations and group sessions. This will include experience in behaviour change, risk factor assessment and management.
Essential to the role is excellent written and communication skills and the ability to work both autonomously and within the broader cardiac MDTs.
Main duties of the job
*Possess specialist knowledge across a range of exercise physiology practices related to cardiac rehabilitation, secondary prevention and recovery following a cardiac illness.
*Possess a comprehensive understanding of an Acute Health Care Environment and the community settings in which cardiac rehabilitation is conducted.
*Work autonomously within your scope of practice to make clinical decisions and judgements regarding patient management as per local/national and international guidelines.
*Undertake risk assessments regarding patient condition and environment to ensure patient and staff safety.
*Deliver exercise programmes individually or in a group, in a variety of settings considering high to moderate risk dependency patients with physical limitations due to co-morbidities.
*In line with set standards, monitor patient progression, making adjustments to patient
programmes as required, escalating concerns to the senior cardiac rehabilitation
specialist within the wider MDT.
*To deliver and support development of the evidence based cardiac patient education
programme. Providing guidance/advice regarding risk factor management, medication, diet,
exercise and psychological factors.
*Make recommendations and implement change that will improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the cardiac rehabilitation service.
