Band 3 Medical Secretary - Rheumatology (maternity cover)

Job summary

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated and compassionate individual to join our dynamic Rheumatology team on a 9-month fixed term contract of 9 months. This role provides secretarial support to one of our consultants. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the service, with responsibilities including audio typing of clinic letters, management of the partial booking waiting lists, general correspondence and minute-taking.

In addition to secretarial duties, the post holder will provide vital administrative support to the wider department and Clinical Team. They will also serve as a sensitive and empathetic point of contact for patients, relatives, and carers.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

*Act as a point of contact for staff, patients, carers, and healthcare professionals, managing sensitive and distressing situations with empathy.

*Handle telephone and face-to-face enquiries with professionalism, ensuring accurate message recording and effective problem-solving.

*Attend and contribute to team meetings, promoting collaboration and effective communication.

*Type clinical documentation (e.g. clinic letters, discharge summaries, medical reports) with a strong understanding of medical terminology.

*Arrange patient appointments and manage consultants' diaries and correspondence.

*Maintain and update patient records using Trust IT systems, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.

*Support colleagues during busy periods and assist with administrative tasks such as scanning, photocopying, and managing hospital notes.

*Adapt to new technologies and working practices to support departmental efficiency.
