Band 7 Labour Ward Coordinator

Job summary

*To hold 24 hour professional accountability for the managing of a team of staff on the maternity ward, delivering high quality, caring and compassionate patient centred care through effective leadership and management and in partnership with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

*To take overall responsibility for a specific clinical area, assess, plan, co-ordinate implementation and evaluate the workload in the clinical area of responsibility.

*Maintain health and safety of families and colleagues at all times by complying with all relevant Trust guidelines, facilitate the implementation of the guidelines and procedures in the area of responsibility.

*Promote multi-disciplinary team working, leading/liaising, communicating as necessary and supporting junior staff.

*Take a lead role in ensuring all students/novice practitioners receive appropriate practice facilitation and mentorship/preceptorship.

*Working in partnership with colleagues across the Directorate to provide both clinical leadership and develop standards to promote high quality practice.

Main duties of the job

Undertake clinical activity to satisfy the NMC requirements for registration, act as a role model by maintaining clinical competency and credibility through evidence based clinical practice, while being aware of the needs of the team.

*To provide leadership in the clinical area of responsibility co-ordinate all staff efforts to ensure the provision of high quality care, promotion of normality and choice for women.

*Promote health for women and their families including parenting skills and health education, facilitating the achievement of national targets and initiatives.

*Maintain and develop a high level of clinical and managerial skills and knowledge, and work towards competencies as agreed in personal development plan.

*Comply with requirements for mandatory training and develop and contribute towards training in key pertinent skills

*Be aware of Local Safeguarding Children's Board and national policies and procedures and take appropriate action to safeguard women.

*Undertake clinical skills as per the competencies for the role.

*Comply with the Trust infection Control Policy. Attend Infection Control training as required with the department and directed by manager.

*Endeavour to achieve a high standard of morale by effective organisation and leadership and promote team working facilitating a culture of professional respect and co-operation.
