Job summary
This is a great opportunity for a registered nurse with a surgical background and experience to gain expert clinical leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of pain management strategies for patients experiencing acute pain. This will be a CNS role band 6 who will be responsible for ensuring evidence based pain management practices are utilised, optimising patient outcomes, improving care delivery and supporting interdisciplinary education and quality improvement initiatives.
We would want this person to have excellent communication skills, have leadership qualities and be a team player given we are a very small team covering the 3 sites of Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull. We would expect this person to work across all sites, based on one site daily Mon-Friday 8-4pm.
This is a good exposure opportunity to the CNS role. It is a full time position. It will offer exposure and training in pain physiology with both pharmacologic and non pharmacologic interventions. We are an advisory service.
It is a 12 month secondment/fixed term contract covering maternity leave.
Main duties of the job
Serve as a clinical expert in the management of various acute pain settings including post operative, trauma patients.
To advise on comprehensive pain assessments and develop individual pain management plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the MDT.
Implement and manage protocols, guidelines and best practices for acute pain control, including opioid stewardship and multimodal analgesia.
Facilitate and deliver staff /MDT training in pain assessment tools, pharmacologic and non pharmacologic pain management strategies, either face to face or teams.
Managing patients on various pain devices ie PCAs, epidurals, rectus sheath infusions and nerve block infusions.
Work autonomously after supernumerary period.
Be an advocate for your patient and the team.
Workload generated via PICS referrals, theatre lists and in person referrals.
