The work undertaken in Ophthalmology departments at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals accounts for 13% of UHB's annual activity.
As demand for services increases, we are opening applications for 2 permanent, full time Band 4 Ophthalmic Technicians to join us at the QE.
These vital roles will work with our dedicated technician team alongside Ophthalmologists, Nurses, Orthoptists, Optometrists, administrative staff and health care assistants and will support the Lead technician in the delivery of the service.
Applicants need to be enthusiastic, motivated and keen to work in a busy department with an interesting caseload both in consultant led and Virtual clinics. Your role will be varied, sometimes challenging but always rewarding. You will be an enthusiastic, individual with excellent communication skills who is keen to progress and learn and provide outstanding clinical care.
Main duties of the job
This is a clinical role for which training can be given but previous experience undertaking automated visual field tests ideally using a Humphrey analyser and performing Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging are advantageous. In addition the post holder will be required to undertake Optos ultra-widefield retinal imaging, for which training can be given.
CPD is actively promoted within the department and training opportunities will be made available to post-holders.
This is a chance to join a dynamic department within a growing field. The post will be based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham but it is likely that in the future there will be requirement to work offsite at a nearby facility. There will also be some requirement for Saturday and evening sessions.
