We have an exciting opportunity to welcome a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist, which would be part rotational in nature, to join our supportive, innovative and forward-thinking SLT team at QEHB.

As a rotational Band 6, you would benefit from static days within the medicine or Health Care of Older People team and the rotational element across many specialities including stroke, voice, surgery, critical care, head and neck cancer and respiratory care.

We have a large yet close-knit, highly skilled team who contribute to our robust supervision structure Innovation, participation in research and clinical/professional development are actively encouraged. We have well-established SLT led Videofluoroscopy, FEES and SVR services so opportunities to access these instrumental assessments to help to shape your clinical practice would also be available.

Main duties of the job

This role is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful candidate would be part of the Medicine or Health Care of Older People team and benefit from 9 month rotations for the remainder of their working week.

Rotational specialities include: Stroke, Head & Neck Cancer, Voice, Outpatients, Respiratory Support Unit, Critical Care and Specialist Surgery.

The role is largely based on acute wards with opportunities for outpatient work through some of the rotations. We have a large team who share a caseload of diverse patient cohorts so being a team player is essential. Each team has a team leader, peer specialist SLTs, NQP SLTs and SLTAs who are all supported by Clinical Leads, a Professional Lead and a Consultant SLT.

We would welcome a candidate who is has experience working with patients in the specialist areas but our supportive team will be willing to support your development.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

* assessing and managing patients with swallowing and communication disorders

* service development and audit

* training of junior colleagues and students

* working towards utilising specialist assessments such e.g. FEES, tracheostomy

* working flexibly and thriving in a fast-paced environment

Essential

  • *Professional knowledge acquired at degree level in Speech and language therapy
  • *Postgraduate training/short courses relevant to working with adults with acquired communication/swallowing difficulties.
  • *Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
  • *Current registration with HCPC.
