Job summary

A transport driver uses a wide range of Trust vehicles from electric tugs, tail lift box vans and shuttle buses to provide a varied supportive role to clinical and non-clinical teams. This includes the movement of employees, beds, trolleys and wheelchairs around the hospital sites and the movement of items i.e. Furniture, post, specimens, patient notes, medical records, procurement stores items etc. The successful candidate will be required to work both morning and afternoons shifts on a rotation basis.

A transport driver is required to be helpful and respectful to patients' staff and visitors whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times. They will maintain high quality standards and will always conduct themselves in a professional manor. They will share best practice to promote and improve the transport service.

As and when required the post holder may work shifts in any area/location of the Trust and may be asked to carry out duties in other departments within the Facilities Directorate

Trust vehicle insurance driver must be minimum 21yrs

Main duties of the job

Responsible for keeping up to date with all drivers' legislation, driver's rules and regulations and to hold a manual C1 and D1 driving licence category plus hold an up to date and valid DCPC card, obtaining drivers medicals as and when require.

Work in a safe, courteous and confidential manner whilst following Trust Policy and associated Standard Operating Procedures relating to the task being carried out.

Responsible for drivers' daily vehicle safety checks. Ensuring vehicles are always in a road worthy condition and to report any defects, however minor, to the transport manager using the correct documentation.

Undertake vehicle cleaning, keeping vehicles interior / exterior clean and tidy, including the correct usage of power washers, cleaning detergents and spillage kits. Ensure vehicles are securely and suitably parked when unattended. Respond to tasks allocated by the manager or facilities team either verbally or via telephone. Transport staff via Inter site shuttle, in a timely, supportive and courteous manner.

Distribution of confidential medical records between libraries, departments and central medical records department. Collection and delivery of blood transfusion products, Collection and delivery of Pathology specimens, samples and consumables, Safe transferral of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy boxes across sites, Collection, handle domestic, recycled and clinical waste, some of which may be hazardous.

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Category B/B1 License.
  • *Must hold a UK driving licence up to a maximum of 6 penalty points due to Commercial Vehicle Insurance.
  • *Category C1/D1 License

Desirable

  • *Dangerous goods awareness. Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • *Holder of the Drivers certificate of professional Competence.
  • *NVQ level 2 or relevant experience in road transport operations. Basic level of education in literacy and numeracy.
