Band 8a Lead Nurse for LATP Biopsy

Job summary

The post holder will support the Prostate Cancer Team across UHB and be part of a wider Uro-Oncology Team. The Prostate Cancer team delivers care across QE, Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope Hospital and it would be expected the successful candidate would be present on all of these sites across there working week.

The post holder will be supported by a dedicated team of robotic prostate surgeons as well as a well-established prostate CNS team.

The successful post holder should be fully competent to provide LATP biopsies.

The successful post holder will also be expected to triage and provide independent biopsies as well developing the wider Urology CNS team to progress into this role. The role will be key in the development of Nurse Led Diagnostics in the UHB Prostate Cancer Pathway

The successful post holder will be expected to foster and maintain relationships across the wider MDT partaking in regular MDT discussions to improve the patient journey.

Main duties of the job

*Work in partnership with existing multi-disciplinary teams, driving development/change.

*Manage staff performance/ training/supervision

*Communicate effectively with patients/carers recognising the need for alternative methods, using sensitivity

*To be responsible for the delivery of detailed, accurate and potentially complex clinical handover

Analytical and Judgemental Skills

*Develop/contribute to local and national guidelines/protocols, to enhance patient care

* Support patients/carers and staff during difficult situations arising in the clinical area

Planning and Organising Skills

*Produce accurate and complete documentation

* Excellent time management and personal organisation skills.

*To be an available knowledge resource in how to initiate and manage the impact of change

Physical Skills

*Triage Prostate Cancer Referrals to correct treatment pathways

*Triage referrals for LATP biopsies

*Provide LATP biopsies independently

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Recognise and work within own competence and professional code. Keep practice up to date, take opportunities to expand own practice in line with pathways and formal appraisal.

*Initiate primary investigations to help inform diagnosis

* Health assessment

*Develop protocols and pathways appropriate to streamlining services/ patient pathways for specialist area
