University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

Band 3 Medical Secretary

The closing date is 21 July 2025

Job summary

The Dermatology Department at Solihull Hospital is one of the most specialised in the country - we have specialist teams for EB and for doing cutaneous allergy testing. We also provide paediatric dermatology, phototherapy treatments and Biologics drug treatments. Our cancer services were at the forefront of developing teledermatology which is now a significant part of our cancer work. We are a large multi-disciplinary team made up of clinicians, nurses and clinical nurse specialists, psychologists, secretaries and administrators.

This is a lively and interesting department to work for. The hospital is very near to Solihull town centre, with good railway and bus links.

Days and times of work can be discussed, with the hours being worked over 3,4 or 5 days.

Main duties of the job

This is a very busy department and we need a new colleague to provide secretarial support to clinicians and their teams. They would provide administrative support to the department with particular responsibility for digital audio typing of clinic and results letters, liaising with patients, GP'S and other health care professionals; answering queries and making appointments. The post holder will provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers. They will undertake work under the direction of the Medical Secretary Supervisor and would work fully as part of a large team of secretaries, helping to cover for others where necessary.
