Band 3 Phlebotomist

Job summary

We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced phlebotomists to join our Phlebotomy team at Good Hope Hospital, part of UHB NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an exciting and varied role requiring a compassionate individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure, and basic keyboard proficiency. Successful candidates must have recent clinical experience in venepuncture/phlebotomy (preferably within the last six months) and will be required to complete our local training and competency assessments upon appointment.

Main duties of the job

*Perform venepuncture for in patient wards, phlebotomy outpatient's department and paediatric clinic as part of the phlebotomy service.

*Allocation of staff when assigned to be the team leader on the given day as per rota basis.

*Prioritising wards that need the service as needed.

*Maintain a high standard of personal behaviour and ensure effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and relatives.

*Act as a professional role model to other members of the team.

*Use paper and electronic systems to retrieve and record patient information in line with Trust documentation standards and operational systems.

*Apply the principles of information governance and patient confidentiality to all aspects of your role.

*Obtain verbal consent from the patient before any phlebotomy is undertaken, where this is not given report this to a registered nurse.

*Accept constructive feedback.

*Escalated concerns regarding colleagues through the appropriate route, feedback, give constructive feedback to Band 2 Health Care Assistants under your supervision.

*Maintain professional boundaries and working relationships with patients and colleagues.

  • *Evidence of completion of a Health-Related Education and Development programme/ Care Certificate

  • *GCSE or equivalent to Level 2 Functional Skills Maths & English

Experience

  • *Recent minimum 12 months experience working in an acute hospital settings
  • *Recent experience of working in a healthcare environment.
